Born in Stockholm in 1974, Sofia Fernandez Stenström spent her childhood between Sweden and Spain, a duality that made emerge her interest in photography as a need to communicate the contrasts and search for identity. After studying Arts in London and becoming a mother, she began developing her photography, exploring her own body and thereby capturing the emotional response. “Photography must be felt, not read or explained” is the idea on which Sofia bases her work: an intimate act between herself and the model, where both open to each other and their emotions are reflected. In the process, they remove masks and gently peel layers of skin to reach the inside. As a result, images have a strong femininity and hide the abstract connection between one and another. A subtle union that breaks when touched and cannot be understood in words.
