Eileen Gray was not only a talented designer, but an autonomous woman in every aspect of her life: thought, work, self-sufficiency and sexual freedom. These qualities were extraordinary, especially considering the historical and geographical context of her birth, which occurred in Enniscorthy, Ireland, in 1878. Her independence and innovative spirit deeply influenced her work, including the creation of the E.1027, a modern villa located on the cliffs of Roquebrune-Cap-Martin, on the French Riviera. This masterpiece, designed for her architect partner Jean Badovici, has become a symbol of her ability to combine aesthetics and functionality in an innovative way. Despite her greatness, Gray faced envy and disapproval from contemporaries such as Le Corbusier, who apparently humiliated her by desecrating and colouring the interior of the E.1027. This did not, however, obscure her legacy, but rather highlighted her strength and resilience. The “TIMEPROFF” collection by Phisique du Role pays tribute to this extraordinary woman, capturing the spirit of her life and work.
